If you want to stay updated on the latest information in the field, you need to stay connected to the organizations that have their finger on the pulse of the field. Check out these organizations, to see what is going on in the mechanical engineering field.

ASME - The American Society of Mechanical Engineers. This site is the premiere site for mechanical engineers. Standards of practices for mechanical engineers are commonly established by the ASMT

ABET - Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. If you are getting ready to move, and need to find an accredited institution to learn at, or if you need to verify accreditation for someone working for/with you, this is the website to do it at.

NSPE
- National Society of Professional Engineers. This site, with membership, will help you stay connected to the professional engineering field. This site will also keep you up to date on licensure requirements, facts and figures about other engineers in your field and geographical area, and assist in getting your professional engineers license.

It is a good idea to join at least one professional organization, to keep in touch with what is going on in the mechanical engineering industry. This will make you a more marketable tool, should decide to switch jobs.
