Mechanical Engineering: Info and writing guide for the curious student

Getting Into Mechanical Engineering

With all the skills mechanical engineers have, what is the best way to get into the field? Well, sadly to say, there is no easy way to get into Mechanical Engineering. Most firms and companies looking for mechanical engineers are also looking for Bachelors degrees, at least. More job opportunities open up, the higher the educational level, but even that has it's fall backs; there is a possibility that you can become over-qualified for some positions. Why would they pay a PhD salary to someone who can do the same job as an undergrad? The answer is, they won't.

A Bachelors degree from a university will ensure that you have at least some basic knowledge, prior to entering in the Mechanical Engineering Field, and rightly so. Think about it. Mechanical engineers work on and design everything. Would you want the designer of the car you drove to work today, to be someone who did not understand the statics and strengths involved with the metal in your car? If we allowed anyone to become a mechanical engineer, without the proper, fundamental knowledge of how things worked and behaved in the real world, things would simply and quite literally collapse on themselves.

In addition to getting into mechanical engineering, you need to start getting some engineering experience under your belt. How you ask? Internships, of course. Internships will get you the second thing potential employers want to see from you, and that is work experience. Although the pay may not be the best, internships guarantee you are getting the work experience many employers will demand, prior to hiring you.
